Гиппиус, Василий Васильевич (1890 — 1942) — русский советский литературовед и переводчик. Окончил Петербургский университет. С 1922 года профессор Пермского университета, затем - Ленинградского. Печатался с 1908 года. Выступал как поэт, близкий к акмеизму. Основные работы посвящены творчеству Н. В. Гоголя, автор работ о И. С. Тургеневе, Н. Г. Помяловском, Н. Г. Чернышевском. М. Е. Салтыкове-Щедрине. Редактировал академические собрания сочинений Н. В. Гоголя, А. С. Пушкина, сочинения Ф. И. Тютчева.
