| My Garden written by William Henry Davies |
| From "Secrets", 1924 |
The lilac in my garden comes to bloom,
The apple, plum and cherry wait their hour,
The honeysuckle climbs from pole to pole -
And the rockery has a stone that's now a flower,
Jewelled by moss in every tiny hole!
Close to my lilac there's a small bird's nest
Of quiet, young, half-sleeping birds: but when
I look, each little rascal - five I've reckoned -
Opens a mouth so large and greedy then,
He swallows his own face in half a second!
