| Old Acquaintance written by William Henry Davies |
| From "A Poet's Pilgrimage", (1918) |
Thy water, Alteryn,
Shines brighter through my tears,
With childhood in my mind:
So will it shine when age
Has made me almost blind.
How canst thou look so young
On my fast changing flesh
And brooding cares that kill -
Oh, you sweet witch as fresh
And fair as childhood - still?
