The Man of Allah ~ Preface
written by Qassim Ali Jairazbhoy
1933.

The world has produced many reformers, prophets, and world-teachers like Buddha, Jesus Christ, Moses, Abraham and others. But Prophet Muhammad and his teachings are unique, original and unchangeably beautiful, the like of which it is impossible to find. The Holy Quran is a perfect code for all climes and for all people and for all ages, proclaiming to the world for the first time the Unity of God ( La Ilaha Illal Lah, Muhammadur Rasulal Lah). He proclaimed "There is no God except one God and Muhammad is His Apostle. This book ( the Quran ), there is no doubt about it, is the guide for the righteous ones ". He brought out a cosmic and wondrous change in the world of religion that was then only a medley of cults, confusing polytheisms and meaningless idolatry.

Peace of Allah be on him and his Ah-Lul Bait!

This remarkably simple, ideal and thoroughly practical man, who preached and practised simplicity and who became the leader and teacher of countless souls, had no schooling at all. There were no regular schools at Mecca then. It is a wonderful phenomenon, no doubt, pointing out his real and praise-worthy greatness. A Persian poet has thus well described the Prophet of Allah; "Our Prophet who never went to school became the teacher of hundreds of teachers."

And this great soul interested himself even in ordinary household affairs, when in the house. Ayesha was once asked about the Prophet as to what he was doing when at home. She replied that he used to help her in the house-hold affairs. Here is work and worship so well combined in a great man.

So simple was the King and Prophet of that time that he had not even servants in his house, nor did he invent anything new. The idea of the supreme power was there, revealed to the various Prophets in diverse ways. Moses, Buddha and Christ did preach this supreme cult. We find in Bhagavad Gita the same essence which Muhammad proclaimed to the humanity in general. The words are these:-" I am the Generator of all: all evolves from Me ; understanding thus, the wise adore Me in rapt emotions"[1] But in the course of time many inconsistencies and interpolations entered into the religion, corrupting the whole fabric of religious thought. The credit goes to the Prophet that he generated and rejuvenated religion, shorn of all its discrepancies, boldly proclaiminig the Unity of God.

So, the words of Krishna spoken thousands of years ago were put by the Prophet in a new and cleaner garb. And further, the Prophet was kind-hearted to friends and foes alike. This very fact has been narrated in the Quran in the following words: — "Certainly an Apostle has come to you from among yourselves; grievous to him is your distress; exceedingly solicitous is he for you and to the believers; compassionate merciful/ (IX, 128.)

From the above words of God it is clear that the Prophet possessed those five sterling qualities. He was an Apostle, raised from among ourselves. That he could not suffer to see pain of others, that he was supremely anxious for the welfare of humanity, and that he was compassionate and merciful, were his other qualities.

In this book the philosophy of the teachings of Muhammad have been presented in a clear and succint manner, abridging details, but not omitting the crystal essence.

In-Sha-Allah, I shall spare no pains to bring out without much delay a bigger edition of the life of the Holy Prophet of Islam, (Peace of Allah be on him ) in a more detailed and exhaustive form, sympathetically, critically, and correctly explaining at length, in the light of incontrovertible historical facts, the marvellous life and career of this mighty, matchless personality. The bigger volume will go by the appropriate name of "The Spirit of Muhammad." The book will be a thundering challenge to the arch-enemies of Islam. I hope it will be of especial benefit and interest to all "Lovers and Seekers after Truth. May He, Allah, the perennial and original source of all light and Knowledge, guide me through this arduous and onerous task! "( O Lord! ) Guide us to the right path." ( Quran, 1-5).
