Telephone cries at the door...
written by Osip Mandelstam
Poems for Children, No. 7 from the cycle “The Primus” written in 1924. Translated from Russian by Dmitri Smirnov. In Russian: Плачет телефон в квартире…

<7>

Telephone cries at the door:
One-two minutes, three or four,
Stopped and stated angrily:
– Nobody approaches me!

Nobody needs me at all,
I’m insulted, caught a cold,
Only telephones-old-beings
Comprehend my gloomy dings!
